When I browse deviantART, I comment on things that I think are particularly original or striking. In doing so, I can't help but notice the other comments on the artwork. Many of these are either 1-3 words of positive, vapid encouragement. I'm going to get straight to the point: ARTISTS DON'T GET BETTER WITHOUT CRITICISM. Also, saying something is "Awesome! I love it!" is ultimately going against the artist because it shows you glanced at their piece, saw that they put some work into it, perhaps favorited it, and then moved on without any further scrutiny. In conclusion, don't be lazy. Put some work into your comments. Find some faults with the piece because DUUUUUH no piece of art is perfect and simply awesome. I actually browsed some more and saw some constructive comments, it's probably not as bad as I'm making it out to be. I do know that it's very easy to fall into the trap of always being positive, though. Not to mention I'm pretty sure I've been guilty myself of doing exactly what I write against.
